upcoming shows

I have works in two upcoming printmaking exhibitions, one here in Denver and one in Iowa.

The Print 528.0 exhibition opening reception is on Friday, February 1 during First Fridays in Denver.  My friends and fellow artists, Catherine Chauvin and Fawn Atencio, are also showing work, so come out and support us if you're in the area!

jaydan moore

Just had to do a quick post about my friend, fellow artist, and former grad school confidante, Jaydan Moore, who is currently an artist-in-residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.  His work and studio practice were just featured on HoustonPBS, and I am so proud I had to share it here.  HE IS AWESOME.

material engagements

The RedLine resident artist group show, Material Engagements, curated by Harmony Hammond, is currently on view until the end of the month!  We had a lovely opening reception at the end of October and have had a couple of write-ups.  Read about the show here and here.

I showed four new 30" x 40" screenprints on paper:

dana schutz and new work

Here's a sneak peek of some new prints (on paper!) that I made for our upcoming group show at RedLine, Material Engagements, curated by the artist, writer, and curator Harmony Hammond.

In other news, Dana Schutz was in residence at University of Denver this past week and a half.  Her exhibition of works on paper at the Denver MCA opened last week, and her big ten-year survey opens at the Denver Art Museum in November.  While on campus, she made some monotypes in the printshop with Catherine Chauvin.

news!

Lots of changes around these parts....

One quick bit of good news is that I am now a resident artist at RedLine in Denver, Colorado!  I'm looking forward to many exciting opportunities in the next couple of years, starting with a group exhibition in the RedLine gallery that opens at the end of October.  More on that later....

You can find out more about RedLine and the programs and opportunities they offer here, and you can see my artist profile here!

UICA

CW is currently installed in an exhibition at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  the show at UICA was a part of ArtPrize 2011, an annual city-wide art competition that invites national and international artists to exhibit in art venues all around Grand Rapids.  the competition hosts numerous art-related events and seeks to encourage the general public to venture out into the city to view art.  my piece was also featured on the cover of the exhibition pamphlet!  thanks to UICA for such a great opportunity.

direct object sneak peek

amelia and i are collaborating on an installation for the overture center for the arts.  the opening reception is on friday, july 15, coinciding with the openings of two other exhibitions at the overture.  our installation will be up until the middle of september!

here's the blurb from their website:

Overture Galleries

Direct Object

an exhibition by Amelia Toelke and Chinn Wang
Tue, Jul 5 - Sun, Sep 18
Gallery I | Free

In the exhibition, Direct Object, low-relief wall pieces depict images of everyday objects to explore the power and psychology of humans’ intrinsic attraction to objects and images.  Collaborators Amelia Toelke and Chinn Wang combine the materials and techniques of both sculpture and printmaking to create their installation at the Overture Center, employing punctuation elements and typographic symbols to compose a visual run-on sentence.  The exhibition presents the artists’ shared interest in themes of domesticity, nostalgia, consumerism, ornamentation, heirloom, and history.

Summer Gallery Cycle RECEPTION: FRI, JUL 15th from 6 pm to 8 pm
